735 STUDENT HOUSING UNITS ON TU/E CAMPUS
The demand for student housing is high. To meet some of that demand, student housing provider Vestide, part of Woonbedrijf, is building 735 student apartments on the Technical University Eindhoven (TU/e) campus. They will be located on the former site of the Pavilion, TU/e’s first building from 1956. The Pavilion was demolished circularly, so we can reuse some parts during construction.
The overall plan consists of two residential towers and a student village. The tower on the west side will have 278 student apartments, and the east tower will consist of 371 apartments. Both towers are about 50 meters tall (16 residential floors). A “student village” will be built between the two towers, featuring 86 two-level houses distributed over five streets. These will primarily be group homes with six or eight student rooms.
The tower on the west side will feature:
21 group homes for four people with a common living room, kitchen and bathroom, for a total of 84 student rooms with an area of 14 m2;
7 group homes for four people with a common living room, kitchen and bathroom, for a total of 28 rooms with an area of 15 m2;
100 studios for one person up to 23 years old, featuring a private kitchen and bathroom and a total area of 24 m2;
12 studios for one person from 23 years old, featuring a private kitchen and bathroom and a total area of 24 m2;
54 apartments for two people, with a private kitchen and bathroom and a total area of 37 m2.
The tower on the east side will feature:
28 group homes for six people, with a common living room, kitchen and bathroom (168 student rooms). 28 of these have an area of 14 m2, 112 have an area of 16 m2 and 28 have an area of 17 m2;
77 studios for one person up to 23 years old, featuring a private kitchen and bathroom and a total area of 24 m2;
96 studios for one person from 23 years old, featuring a private kitchen and bathroom and a total area of 24 m2;
30 apartments for two people, with a private kitchen and bathroom and a total area of 37 m2.
The low-rise buildings will feature:
5 group homes for six people with a common living room, kitchen and bathroom, for a total of 30 student rooms with an area of 15 m2;
7 group homes for six people with a common living room, kitchen and bathroom, for a total of 56 student rooms with an area of 15 m2;
In addition to the houses, there is also a mix of spaces that encourage and invite students to seek each other out, which makes a significant contribution to the well-being of the residents.
The first floor of the towers and at the “heads” of the student village, a boulevard on the water (blue carpet) and the greenery will soon form the social heart of the community. This will include a “Maker space”, meeting spaces, facilities and other spaces and locations we will design with the students. The floors will also have common areas where students can meet.
